We are looking for a Public Information Coordinator II, who will, under the supervision of the public information director II (supervisor), this position supports the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ (SCDHHS) Office of Communications by providing technical expertise in writing, editing and additional public relations support for activities, programs and initiatives. The position works in tandem with Office of Communications team members to plan and execute communication initiatives and strategies. The public information coordinator also supports and works with program areas across the agency to develop, edit and review public-facing content in support of the agency’s communications strategy. Works with internal stakeholders to develop well-written content to be used by the agency in explaining and promoting its programs and initiatives to internal and external audiences. Collaborates with program area staff to assist in development of communication deliverables, including newsletter articles, talking points, presentations, web content, reports, collateral and other written materials, in a time-sensitive manner. Develops social media messages and posts in concert with agency’s editorial calendar. Edits and reviews deliverables to ensure accuracy, consistency, alignment with AP style and the agency style guide. This includes collaborating with Office of Communications colleagues and team members from across the agency to ensure material has been properly reviewed and vetted and is audience appropriate. Adheres to and enforces the Office of Communications’ “Rule of Two” review protocol.Cross trains with other Office of Communications staff to develop an understanding of the agency’s communications principles, strategies, processes and expectations. Supports communications needs of agency staff as assigned by supervisor. Keeps abreast of trends in health and human services industries, especially as they relate to cost and outcomes of health programs and local issues that affect South Carolinians. Updates supervisor and Office of Communications colleagues about work being done in supported program areas to ensure communications efforts are integrated and guidance is consistent throughout the agency. Assists program area staff with developing content for the agency’s internal communications channels. Proactively works with Office of Communications colleagues to identify additional value-add activities for the Office of Communications.Works with department leadership to identify key metrics to track and reports on identified metrics. Proactively researches relevant news articles, studies and other external information and disseminates material as directed. Works with Office of Communications leadership to research and maintain agency media list(s).Supports agency’s stakeholder engagement efforts through maintaining stakeholder roster, tracking engagement and assisting in coordinating outreach. Collaboratively works with agency staff to continuously research external stakeholders with whom the agency may engage. Attends and participates in relevant opportunities for professional development and training. Demonstrates utilization and application of new skills learned to improve effectiveness and efficiency within assigned responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.
