About Civil Litigation
Under general supervision, the attorney will primarily enforce the South Carolina Underground Facility Damage Prevention Act (the “SC811 Act”), provide legal advice and representation relating to civil litigation, and advise the State, state agencies, and officials.
Necessary Requirement: Must be a member and in good standing with the South Carolina Bar. Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements.

Under general supervision, the attorney will primarily enforce the South Carolina Underground Facility Damage Prevention Act (the “SC811 Act”), provide legal advice and representation relating to civil litigation, and advise the State, state agencies, and officials.
- Enforcement will include performing an initial review of new complaints, gathering and evaluating responses to complaints, determining if a violation occurred, determining if a fine is warranted, issuing appropriate fines, and enforcing fine collection in circuit court.
- This position will assist with Freedom of Information Requests, extradition hearings, and state employee grievance hearings. It may also be asked to assist with various case types, including general civil defense, subpoena defense, sex offender registry challenges, mortgage foreclosures, and civil asset forfeitures.
- This position will be expected to provide complete legal advice and counsel on all assignments through research and preparation of letters, memoranda, contractual agreements, and other documents, as well as review proposed legislation, administrative regulations, and related documents.
- This position will also handle miscellaneous duties and specific litigation or special projects as assigned by the Division Deputy, Chief Deputy Attorney General, and/or Attorney General.
- Other duties as assigned.
Necessary Requirement: Must be a member and in good standing with the South Carolina Bar. Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements.

- Employee may be required to travel and transport files.
- Must have knowledge and ability to interpret the laws of South Carolina.
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Some overnight travel may be required.
