Job Responsibilities
The Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office (RFA) Geodetic Survey Field Crew ensures the integrity of geodetic control throughout South Carolina so that land and land-related items can be accurately referenced to the national horizontal and vertical coordinate system. The South Carolina Geodetic Survey (SCGS) accomplishes this by operating a statewide Real-Time GPS Network (SCRTN). Responsibilities of this position will include being trained and performing the technical procedural duties required to perform geodetic surveys, re-establish the land-based county boundaries in the state, and to maintain the infrastructure of the SCRTN. As a Field Crew Team member, you will work under direct supervision of the Field Crew Supervisor and travel within South Carolina with arranged overnight accommodations and meal reimbursement on a Monday thru Thursday workweek. This position requires a valid SC Class D driver's license, the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position as well as interact in a positive and professional manner with coworkers. Job responsibilities include :
- Performs reconnaissance by researching and using data sheets published by the National Geodetic Survey for geodetic control stations.
- Write descriptions for control stations according to SCGS specifications.
- Establish preliminary coordinates using Trimble Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) equipment.
- Provide an accurate obstruction survey to assist GPS observation planning for all GPS control stations GPS-ABLE.
- Select new sites per specifications of survey order and criteria of survey.
- Locate new monuments according to criteria.
- Gain approval from SC811 (PUPS) underground location.
- Perform GPS observations using static procedures or the SC Real Time Network (RTN) to determine accurate coordinates and elevations.
- Ensure all FGCC, NGSS, and SCGS specifications, procedures, and policies are followed.
- Establish new geodetic control monuments according to SCGS guidelines for size / shape of monument through the use of various digging tools designed for mark-setting.
- Assist with the County Boundary Program field operations.
- Perform maintenance on RTN infrastructure.
- Assist in office when needed.
- Inspect and maintain tools and equipment.
