Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Computing and Information Technology, the System Administrator manages and maintains the university’s server and storage infrastructure.
Travel/Overtime Requirements: Employee is expected to work outside regular business hours and on weekends for planned system maintenance and emergencies.
License/Certification: Valid driver's license.
Telecommuting: Employees are not eligible for telecommuting/remote work during their 12-month probationary period. After that time, certain positions may be eligible for telecommuting/remote work at the discretion of the supervisor and in accordance with Winthrop policies.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Computing and Information Technology, the System Administrator manages and maintains the university’s server and storage infrastructure.
- Administers server infrastructure, including physical, virtual and cloud-based systems: Maintains multiple environments on various servers and ensures proper operation; manages and maintains storage infrastructure; works with developers to troubleshoot problems and assists with integration of new code into production systems; and develops and maintains tools for automation, monitoring and capacity planning.
- Modifies existing hardware, software and operating systems to correct errors, adapt them to new technologies and improve compatibility or performance.
- Manages and maintains secure infrastructure and conducts audits of folder/system access and permissions.
- Provides technical assistance and support with client workstation configurations.
- Participates in preparation of needs assessments, planning documents, requests for proposals and projects.
- Consults with project managers, analysts, programmers, administrators and other IT professionals on such issues as system design, limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, interfaces and maintenance.
- Develops comprehensive technical documentation and system diagrams.
- Researches new products and technologies and recommends purchases.
- Attends training and performs self-study to keep expertise current.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Two years of professional experience in an information technology-related field.
- Proficiency with Windows environments.
- Expert knowledge of computer and network hardware, software and operating systems.
- Ability to understand and solve complex technical problems.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare status and technical reports in a clear and concise manner.
- Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff and students.
- Ability to maintaining strict confidentiality when working with sensitive information/data.
- Experience with virtual and cloud-based systems.
- Microsoft certifications.
- Related experience at an institution of higher education.
