Performs and/or oversees inspection work in all specialized areas on complex, intermediate, and small road and bridge projects on primary and secondary routes. Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with all South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) rules, regulations, and policies stated in the SCDOT Human Resources Manual, SCDOT Standard Specifications, SCDOT Construction Manual, SCDOT Standard Drawings for Road Construction, and Contract Special Provisions. Responsible for completing and submitting reports, notes, and daily diaries to supervisor within required time limits. Performs interoffice audits of all assigned construction projects to ensure compliance with Director of Construction quality standards. Assists with various project closeout duties. This includes, but is not limited to, helping to prepare final construction plans, assisting with project materials certification, and ensuring completion of final punch list - all within the required time frame. Monitors traffic control on assigned projects to ensure the traffic control plan is being followed according to approved plans. Trains fellow employees in certified and non-certified inspection areas and office procedures in which this employee is certified. Performs other related duties as assigned.A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May require occasional exposure to noise.
