Job Responsibilities
At Sumter Maintenance, performs inspection of maintenance activities to include guardrail repair and installation, mowing, tree cutting, litter pick-up, vegetation grinding, brush management, concrete repair, full depth patching, sweeping, herbicide, spraying, etc. Uses daily diaries to measure work peformance of contractors work for audit purposes. Responsible for the yearly cable rail, guardrail and crash attenuator inspection plan. Inspects for damages, delineates all damaged areas with traffic devices, check components for deformities, submit reports for repairs, enters inventory data and files reports. Assists RME and Contract Managing Engineer with meeting the general public and foremen concerning complaints and requests for service. Performs weekly inspections of the I-95 north bound and south bound rest areas. Ensuring that the facility contractor and grounds keeper contractor are maintaining the facility accordingly. Collects field data and maintains features inventory for reference in generating future contracts.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and / or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
Additional Comments
May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and / or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
