This position directs the activities of a 10 person suppression module by directing firefighting activities, organizing, and overseeing projects and daily tasks, facilitating safety procedures, employee/firefighter training, performing logistical and administrative functions to ensure the safety and well-being of the crew, maintain crew response preparedness, and to respond to incidents as needed. Operates drone as qualified pilot for any missions that are needed.
Responsible for crew safety and health, securing medical attention for crew members; debrief incident management team officials; coordinate travel logistics; manage crew time and claims; establish appropriate lodging or bedding areas for off duty station assignments.
Ensures the maintenance of crew fleet; secures temporary replacement of vehicles as needed. Fleet equipment may include crew carriers pick-ups, trailers, UTV's, and ATV's.
Works in fire management situations that are inherently dangerous and is exposed to unpredictable fire behavior, burns, smoke, dust, and extreme temperatures exacerbated by the need for and weight of protective gear; works around heavy equipment and aircraft in operation with limited visibility; walks and works in rough terrain; and performs continuous and hard physical labor using hand and power tools. This position also requires an annual work capacity test at the arduous level which is a three mile fast paced walk carrying 45 pounds in under 45 minutes.

National Wildfire Coordinating Group(NWCG) Crew Boss Qualification Required.
This position also requires an annual work capacity test at the arduous level which is a three mile fast paced walk carrying 45 pounds in under 45 minutes.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
National Wildfire Coordinating Group(NWCG) Taskforce Leader,ICT4, Faller 2,Crew Boss ,Firing Boss.
Knowledge Of
Substantial practical knowledge of wildland fire suppression tactics and procedures, fuel types and fire behavior, fire management objectives and policies, and firefighting strategies and tactics pertinent to initial attack, large fire suppression actions and wildland urban interface/intermix situations. Includes knowledge of other agency management objectives and policies and the full range of suppression tactics. Practical knowledge of land use and resource management practices and policies. Knowledge of fuels management practices and policies sufficient to independently gather, analyze, and interpret data for the development of fuels treatment and burn plans; and to execute prescribed burn projects.
Knowledge of instructional techniques and training development standards.
Knowledge of drone operations for mapping, recon flights, IR flights, and psd operation.
Skill To
This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.

- manage a fire including organizing resources, choosing strategies and tactics, overseeing suppression, completing a fire file, and investigating source and cause of fire;
- interpret and implement fire mobilization plans and quickly locate sufficient personnel and equipment to accomplish fire suppression;
- maintain and operate a fleet of specialized firefighting equipment;
- read maps and understand topographical features and their effect on fire suppression efforts;
- interpret and explain department policies and procedures;
- effectively present instructional material in firefighting and fire use to adult learners;
- maintain physical fitness standards;
- maintain firefighting qualifications standards at the designated level;
- communicate effectively.
