Manage state park district #1 consisting of Roy Lake, Fort Sisseton, and Sica Hollow State Parks, Pickerel Lake Recreation Area, several Lakeside Use Areas and primitive water access sites throughout the district as well as historical and natural areas by performing administrative tasks to develop and support the district, providing oversight of district operation and maintenance efforts, and fostering recreational activities that are compatible with the resources. Maintaining consistency of quality and motivating staff to be successful.

The district park supervisor works in a typical office environment and outdoors in all types of weather conditions, near/on water and on ice, can be exposed to hazardous materials and chemicals, works with a variety of large equipment such as tractors, loaders, bobcats, etc., and an assortment of tools. . Must be able to work alone or with others, including resolving conflicts with the public.

Licenses And Certifications

Valid driver license.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Foresight for district wide administrative planning, organizational and communication skills to set efficient and effective operational standards, knowledge of management practices to enhance and improve the natural resources, ability to monitor compliance with applicable rules and regulations, belief in servitude to maximize public service and experience, and posses knowledge and skills to supervise subordinate staff to ensure goals and objectives of the work unit are met.

A Bachelors Degree in park management or related field is preferred.

Knowledge Of

  • park and recreation resource management including methods of developing, preserving, and enhancing natural resources;
  • federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to park operations, conservation of natural resources, risk management, and boating safety;
  • state statutes regarding criminal and conservation law enforcement;
  • personnel management sufficient to supervise employees of varying skill levels;
  • fiscal management practices and procedures sufficient to prepare a district-wide budget, evaluate and prioritize projects, and allocate funds and monitor expenditures;
  • interpretive and educational programming;
  • principles of effective human relations and dealing with the public.

Ability To

  • visualize and project district needs, evaluate and prioritize projects, and equitably distribute available resources;
  • develop standards of performance, evaluate employee performance and accountability, and provide feedback to employees;
  • communicate information clearly and concisely and develop ideas in a logical sequence;
  • prepare promotional presentations as they relate to park programs.
