The Bureau of Information and Telecommunications is looking to fill a Geographical Information System (GIS) Intern role for the Fall semester. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
Applicant must have coursework and experience with ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise Platform and the ArcGIS software suite. (Portal, ArcPro, ArcGIS Desktop, Server, SDE, ArcGIS Online, Survey 123, Maps for Office, Experience Builder, Field Maps, etc.) Additionally, applicant must have the ability to edit a map, publish layers to Online or the Portal, and to edit layers and put them on a webmap.
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment.

- APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.
The Bureau of Information and Telecommunications is looking to fill a Geographical Information System (GIS) Intern role for the Fall semester. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting our State of South Dakota's GIS Team with various GIS projects and initiatives for the state agencies and bureaus.
- Assisting with data collection, entry, and analysis, creating maps, visualizations, performing spatial analysis, and supporting the maintenance of existing GIS solutions.
- Assisting the State GIS Coordinator and State GIS Developer with managing and administering the State's GIS users and user groups.
- Working with the State GIS Developer to review existing legacy GIS solutions and create recommendations and considerations to modernize and improve those legacy solutions.
- Assisting agencies with questions or issues related to using ArcGIS Online, Portal, and how to navigate between them.
- Assisting with special GIS related projects, tickets, and other tasks, as assigned.
