Minimum Salary: $18.60
Provide technical assistance to habitat program staff in Region 1 to aid in developing, improving, and maintaining habitat for the enhancement of wildlife species and increased hunter and recreation opportunities on state-owned and managed property. This intern position will be provided the opportunity to learn key habitat management techniques through "classroom-style" seminars as well as on the ground activities. These duties and seminar topics represent critical parts of an effective habitat management program.
Additional responsibility as project lead may be given based on intern's abilities and skills. This position's duty area covers the western half of the state, so extensive travel may be necessary, occasionally with overnight stays. A valid driver's license is required. Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor and be willing to work outdoors in extreme and variable weather conditions. Upon employment, intern must obtain a SD Commercial Applicator's license in categories G, 1A, 7, and 12. Training in the safe use of ATV/UTVs will be provided.
Qualifications
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.

- APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.
