Job Summary

The South Dakota Department of Health is hiring a full time Program Assistant II for the Medical Cannabis Program.

The Program Assistant II is the Patient Card Specialist position and is a key member of the team within the Medical Cannabis Program. The Patient Card Specialist must demonstrate professionalism, initiative, and leadership. This position is responsible for certifying practitioners, processing applications for eligible cardholders within the medical cannabis patient portal and serves as the lead in providing technical assistance via phone, email, and other written correspondence to those patients and providers. The Patient Card Specialist will also assist with software vendors, help to develop, implement, and evaluate program operations within the Medical Cannabis Program.

This position is located in Pierre, SD and is not eligible for remote work.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Experience working in or with government entities, serving customers, working as part of a team, and having the ability to successfully navigate multiple complex projects simultaneously.
• Previous customer service phone and/or software troubleshooting experience may be preferred.
  
  

Knowledge Of

• principles and practices of public administration;
• supervision and other personnel management processes;
• applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations;
• general methods and processes in areas such as purchasing, budgeting, accounting, and other administrative activities pertinent to government operations;
• computer systems and applications;
• distribution methodologies;
• applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulation;
• computer systems and applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and program specific software;
• provide technical assistance to practitioners, patients, establishment personnel, and team members;
• provide input on high profile work that represents the Medical Cannabis Program with external parties;
• possess initiative and the ability to take on tasks and projects;
• general methods and processes in areas such as budgeting, accounting, and other administrative activities pertinent to government operations.
