The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a dynamic, experienced leader to serve as the Administrator for the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home (MJFSVH), a 100-bed, licensed long-term care facility nestled in the scenic Black Hills. This is an exciting opportunity for a visionary healthcare leader to oversee and shape the future of care at a facility dedicated to honoring the lives of veterans.
As the Administrator, you will be at the helm of a campus that prioritizes exceptional care and quality of life for its residents. Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management: Oversee the daily operations of the facility, ensuring all departments work cohesively to deliver top-tier care to residents. You will play a crucial role in setting the vision and strategy for the facility, aligning the team with the mission, and holding staff accountable to high performance standards.
- Financial Oversight: Manage the facility's budget, fiscal responsibilities, and financial performance to ensure efficient use of resources while maintaining financial health.
- Healthcare Program Oversight: Monitor and direct a variety of health services programs to meet the needs of residents while staying compliant with state and federal regulations.
- Policy Development: Develop, implement, and evaluate policies that ensure smooth operations and high standards of care across all departments.
- Cross-Functional Management: Provide oversight for key functions including medical logistics, human resources, physical plant management, and emergency/disaster planning.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay current on and implement federal and state standards and policies to ensure the facility consistently meets or exceeds regulations.
- Community Engagement: Act as a liaison with community partners, state, federal, and private agencies to advocate for the facility and its residents.

- Leadership Expertise: Demonstrated experience in leading diverse teams of professionals, including direct care staff, maintenance, and administrative personnel.
- Knowledge of Long-Term Care: A strong understanding of long-term care administration, Medicare and Medicaid procedures, and regulatory compliance.
- Financial Acumen: Experience managing budgets and financial performance in a healthcare setting, ensuring sustainability and growth.
- Team Development: Proven ability to develop, mentor, and lead a skilled team, creating an environment that supports professional growth and continuous improvement.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including representing the facility during legislative sessions as needed.
- Veterans’ Care Knowledge: An interest in learning about the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ systems and policies to ensure exceptional care for our nation’s veterans.
