The South Dakota Driver’s License Program consists of one central office in Pierre and 25 state exam stations and 25 County issue sites located throughout the state. Our Telephone Service Representatives work in the central office and answer calls from South Dakota citizens, driver license examiners, lawyers, employers, insurance agents, and more.
Our Telephone Service Representatives are trained to answer questions about obtaining driver’s licenses, learner’s permits, and commercial driving licenses. They also answer people’s questions about required documents, reinstatement fees, and anything else related to driver licensing.
Each Telephone Service Representative is assigned daily administrative duties they need to complete in addition to answering incoming calls.
Our team members at the central office work together to complete all the administrative duties that are required to run South Dakota’s Driver Licensing Program. This includes sending letters to individuals who have had their license suspended or revoked due to a conviction, issuing driving records, tracking surrendered licenses, and more.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of computer operations which would include but is not limited to the use of email and web browser. Our telephone service representatives use a lot of various computer programs throughout their course of work. The ideal candidate would also have the ability to think quickly and be able to provide timely and accurate information to the customers. The ideal candidate would also have a positive attitude, superior communication skills, experience in dealing with the public, and effective multitasking skills. Because our Telephone Services Representatives deal directly with the public and are required to multitask, this position can create increased volumes of stress. A high level of stress management and coping skills are needed to succeed in this position.
This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment.
