Who we are and what we do :
The Division of Fire Prevention, also known as the Tennessee State Fire Marshal's Office (SFMO), is a part of the Department of Commerce and Insurance. The SFMO has seven sections that are committed to protecting the safety of Tennesseans and their property from loss by fire through : education, codes enforcement, inspection, and regulation. The SFMO oversees the processing of over twenty types of permits, licenses, and certificates. The SFMO interacts with the public, state and local elected officials, the fire service, and many regulated industries daily.
How you make a difference in this role :
Through the analysis and management of geographic information system (GIS) software and data related to the fire service in the State of Tennessee. This position is highly visible and frequently interacts with the public and officials within the fire service.
Key Responsibilities :
- Analysis and management of geographic information system (GIS) software and data related to the fire service in the State of Tennessee.
- Frequent interaction with national organizations, fire departments, and the public to develop and implement fire prevention strategies.
- Collects and analyzes all geographic data related to the fire service, and creates custom GIS data, such as annual fire risk model, fire station locations, and fire station service areas.
- Uses data to guide community risk reduction and fire prevention efforts.
- Use statistical analysis to measure the effectiveness of fire prevention programs, to the Division in determining the impact of its fire prevention programs.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree and / or specialized training, experience equivalent to three (3) years of full-time professional geospatial data analysis and (GIS) experience preferred. Proficiency in the use of applications such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and PostGIS helpful.
