Who we are and what we do : Tennessee Advanced Communications Network (TACN), a Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security division, is a statewide radio system providing communication connectivity infrastructure for local, state, and federal first responders. With TACN, first responders, including law enforcement, fire, EMS, and healthcare providers, have reliable communication capabilities for daily operations and the ability to talk to each other to coordinate at the local, regional, and statewide levels to respond to an emergency or disaster.
Job Overview : The Tennessee Advanced Communications Network is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Public Safety Communications Intern (unpaid) to assist with the development of the training program for the TACN employee lifecycle, from onboarding to mastery of key skills and abilities (KSAs) related to the technical support of public safety communications infrastructure and public safety communications for the State of Tennessee. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in state government operations, emergency communications planning, and technical support.
Key Responsibilities : Assist in researching, developing, and implementing emergency communication systems and protocols.Participate in drafting and reviewing technical documents, reports, and policy recommendations.Assist with planning and coordinating emergency response exercises and drills.Analyze data and generate reports related to emergency communications and response efficiency.Assist with outreach efforts, including training sessions and public information campaigns.Collaborate with various state agencies and local emergency response teams.Perform administrative support tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications : Currently pursuing an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in Emergency Management, Communications, Information Technology, Public Administration, Organizational Development, Learning and Development, or a related field.Strong interest in public safety, emergency response, and technical communications.Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and / or data visualization tools.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
