Return Utah
The Return Utah program is a formal career reentry program, designated for Utahns desiring to re-enter the workforce after a career break. Along with a state job and traditional on-the-job training, Return Utah roles provide 16-weeks of transitional support (similar to an internship) which includes an office technology review, coaching, career development, mentorship, networking opportunities and job market readiness training.
To be eligible for this return-to-work opportunity candidates:
Must have a career break of one year or more at the time of application
(unless the candidate is affiliated with the military in any way including as a military spouse/partner),
or
Demonstrate underemployed at the time of application
and
Have prior professional/life experience in a functional area of interest
Long Term Opportunity
This is a long term position, meaning employment continues after transitional support provided during the first 16 weeks of employment, after the completion of the Return Utah program.
Job Description
The Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) is seeking a talented Administration Specialist to join our dynamic team! This pivotal role ensures smooth and efficient operations in support of Department goals. Employees in this position work in a team environment at the Department’s office. Occasional out-of-town travel may be required
Principal Duties
The Administration Specialist’s duties are primarily related to consumer complaint resolution, non-depository institution licensing, finance support, and other Department operations. The Administration Specialist reports to the Administrative Supervisor and will work closely with the administration and consumer affairs teams.
Requirements
To be qualified for the Administration Specialist position, applicants must have a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas.
Customer Service: This includes roles that involve direct customer interaction, demonstrating strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to providing excellent service.
Accounting or Bookkeeping: This includes roles requiring experience managing financial records, preparing financial statements, processing invoices, and understanding basic accounting practices.
Work at a Financial Institution: This includes employment at banks, credit unions, check cashers, lenders, or money transmitters. Experience in this field should involve understanding financial products, services, and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position has the following characteristics and skills.
A high level of professionalism, including behavior in accordance with integrity, trust, fairness, adaptability, teamwork, and proficiency.
Experience with or ability to learn about financial institutions and applicable laws and regulations.
Experience:
managing your own work performance to achieve specific outcomes;
providing excellent customer service, including effective written and verbal communication;
handling consumer complaints and de-escalating tense situations; and
working collaboratively with staff at all levels of an organization.
Exceptional detail orientation, organization, and phone etiquette skills.
Strong Word, Excel, and data entry skills.
An understanding of accounting, internal controls, and fraud prevention principles.
Ability to think critically, analyze data, and develop conclusions.
Preference
Preference may be given to those with education or experience described below.
A bachelor’s degree or higher in a field related to business, communication, education, or human-behavior.
Experience working with the State of Utah's FINET system.
Familiarity with the State of Utah's accounting, payroll, and travel policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate in Spanish.

The expected start date is June 2, 2025, but this can be negotiated with the hiring manager.
A salary increase will be given once the probation period (12 months) is successfully completed.
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
DHRM rules regarding promotions and transfers apply to current state of Utah employees.
