GIS Analyst – Return Utah Location: Division of Water Resources, Utah 1594 W. North Temple SLC, UT 84116 Work Schedule: Full-time, Within 50 miles - 5 days per week in office for the first 3-6 months, Up to 3 days per week remote thereafter if desired. Greater than 50 miles within Utah - Rural Remote Work 5 days per week available. Job Description:The Utah Division of Water Resources is offering a unique opportunity through the Return Utah Program for individuals who want to re-enter the workforce after a career break. This long-term position as a GIS Analyst provides the chance to contribute to solving Utah’s water challenges while working on meaningful projects that make an impact.
As a GIS Analyst, you’ll utilize GIS software to create, manage, analyze, and perform quality control of spatial data. You’ll develop and maintain maps and tools, lead key programs such as the Water-Related Land Use Program, and collaborate with staff and consultants to deliver impactful projects. Return Utah Program Details: The Return Utah Program is a career reentry program designed for individuals who have taken a career break of one year or more, or who are underemployed. Along with a state job and traditional on-the-job training, participants gain valuable professional opportunities to re-enter the workforce.
This is a long-term position, meaning employment continues after completing the Return Utah Program.
Eligibility Requirements:To be eligible for this return-to-work opportunity, candidates must:
- Have a career break of one year or more at the time of application (unless affiliated with the military, including as a military spouse/partner), or
- Demonstrate underemployment at the time of application.
- Candidates should also have prior professional or life experience in a functional area of interest.
- Generate maps and figures for presentations, publications, meetings, and social media.
- Perform GIS analyses, data entry, and quality control tasks.
- Create and maintain web maps and applications for internal and external users.
- Maintain and update the Division's collection of spatial data.
- Lead the Water-Related Land Use Program, including data collection, task oversight, product maintenance, publishing results, and training staff.
- Manage and utilize GIS-related software, equipment, models, and scripts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- GIS experience and education.
- Proficiency in GIS tools such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related GIS software.
- Knowledge of geo-processing, modeling, and scripting.
- Skills in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure.
- Experience with satellite imagery, aerial imagery, and image analysis.
- Knowledge of environmental science, irrigation, or agriculture.
- Part 107 drone pilot license.
- Interest in applying machine learning, artificial intelligence, or deep learning for GIS solutions.
Special Working Conditions:
- Occasional travel and overnight stays during fieldwork.
