What are the responsibilities and job description for the IT Security Administrator position at State of Utah?
The Utah State Board of Education is seeking applicants for a system administrator vacancy. USBE is looking for a security expert that will be responsible for managing and securing IT infrastructure and systems. This includes management of multiple environments and using security tools to assess risks within the infrastructure. The candidate will work closely with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and alongside other IT operations personnel to maintain a robust infrastructure to meet agency needs.

Principal Duties:
- Performs threat and vulnerability assessments, in some cases followed by appropriate remedial action, to ensure that systems are protected from known and potential threats and are free from known vulnerabilities.
- Locate and repair security problems and failures.
- Assist and train team members in the use of security tools, the preparation of security reports and the resolution of security issues.
- Develops and maintains documentation for security tools and procedures with the CISO.
- Performs user and system administration on designated applications, in accordance with the defined policies, standards and procedures of the organization.
- Work with the technology team to assist with maintaining an advanced network infrastructure, including physical and virtual local area network (LAN), off-site wide area network (WAN), cloud networks, firewalls, and network access control.
- Assist with configuring cloud and on-premises virtual infrastructure network segments.
- Security, network, and/or firewall related certifications.
- Understanding software development processes and best practices.
- Able to recognize forward-looking business needs along with industry, business, and IT trends.
- Communicating in language that non-tech people can understand.
- Ability to manage relationships while demonstrating persistence and problem-solving.
- Ability to adapt to new and changing situations.
- Associate degree or higher in an IT related field.
- 5 years of IT experience with at least three years in a network, system, or security related role.
- Knowledge of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Center for Internet Security (CIS) Critical Security Controls.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong prioritization skills – organized and efficient.
