Licensed Clinical Therapist (LCT) uses independent judgment and discretion in diagnosing and formulating clinical treatment plans for clients; OR performs a variety of professional tasks related to developing, implementing, and conducting specialized individual and group psychotherapy in a clinical setting. An LCT may provide clinical intervention with individuals and families to conduct clinical assessments, and clinical meetings. May document client progress, compile case histories, and prepare other related reports; negotiate, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate service contracts; participate in research, training, and supervisory programs. LCTs may provide case management to include vocational counseling, guidance, testing, medical restoration, assessment of training needs, direct employer contacts for on-the-job training, job placement, and follow-up services. Licensure as a Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Clinical Mental Health Counselor required. Some employees within this title may work in a correctional environment with an inmate population.

Caseworker III evaluates the needs of clients, develops and implements treatment plans to assist individuals and/or families with problems such as poor personal and family adjustment and/or anti-social behavior. This job requires licensure as an Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor Extern, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, or an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist Extern. Certified Social Workers may also be placed in this title when used at the Department of Corrections and Department of Health and Human Services. Generally, the best qualified individuals for this job will have previous experience with the community or assigned client base. Some employees within this title may work in a correctional environment with an inmate population.

  • Delivers presentations, stand up training, and/or instruction to staff, management, clients, and/or the general public.

  • Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, documents, and/or other written materials.

  • Refers client/patient to other available services to meet needs where appropriate.

  • Organizes and conducts surveys and/or studies.

  • Consults with physician and/or other health professionals as needed to ensure holistic approach and coordination of care and case management.

  • Develops and implements treatment plans to help clients mobilize inner capacities and resources to improve social functioning.

  • Conducts individual, family, or group therapy sessions in accordance with the established treatment plan and provides crisis intervention, if necessary.

  • Prepares mental health assessments by obtaining background information such as physical, psychological or mental health, and social factors which contribute to the client's situation, and by studying case histories of clients/residents.

  • Facilitates the use of research data to improve existing programs and utilization of resources.

  • Provides case coordination to include evaluating the needs of clients, developing and implementing treatment plans, and monitoring progress.
  • Acts as an expert witness. Gives testimony and/or recommendations in court cases and/or hearings.

  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

  • Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.

  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.

  • Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

  • Bringing others together for conflict resolution.

  • Identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.

  • The ability to come up with unusual or clever ideas about a given topic or situation, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem.

  • The ability to quickly make sense of, combine, and organize information into meaningful patterns.

  • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

  • Licensure as a Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Clinical Mental Health Counselor required.

  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.

  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.

  • Effective July 1, 2021, State of Utah Employees must either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to within 30 days of their start date.
