The Utah Department of Transportation is looking for a highly motivated person with excellent communication skills to work as a Project Manager (Engineering Manager I) in Region One.

The Project Manager helps keep Utah moving by being involved in every step of their assigned projects to ensure utmost quality for our citizens.

Principal Duties
The UDOT Project Manager is responsible for:
  • Defining project parameters and formulating a comprehensive task list to achieve project objectives.
  • Ensuring a customer-centric approach through the project lifecycle, while maintaining the integrity of project scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Coordinating and overseeing task execution to ensure smooth project progress.
  • Delivering a final quality product on time and within prescribed cost constraints and defined project scope.
  • Developing, negotiating, and administering contracts/agreements.
  • Directing the project from the planning phase though design, and construction.
  • Providing effective leadership to a diverse team of technical specialists.
  • Coordinating project issues through risk evaluation and timely communication with all parties involved.
  • Collaborating with local governments on future developments and transportation needs.

Minimum Qualifications
The minimum qualifications required for the position are to:
  • Be registered as a professional engineer (PE) in Utah in accordance with the provisions of Utah Code Annotated 58-22.
  • Have at least two years of engineering experience following licensure as a Professional Engineer.
  • Have strong communication, facilitation, and organizational skills.
  • Be able to take the initiative on self-prioritized tasks with little to no direct supervision.
Preference may be given to applicants with roadway design experience.

Here is some additional information of which you should be aware:
  • Working Conditions: Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Physical Requirements: Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director / Group Leader.
  • Department of Human Resource Management rules regarding promotions and transfers apply to current state employees.
