What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Trail Crew Technician - Southeast position at State of Utah?
The Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Outdoor Recreation, has a region-wide seasonal position (no benefits) available based in Salt Lake City, Utah. This appointment will be full time (40 hours per week) from approximately May 5th -October 30th .
Examples of Duties
- Acts as a Trail Crew Member under the direction of the Trail Crew Leader and Region Trail Crew Supervisor.
- Works directly to aid in the completion of projects on motorized and non-
- motorized trails. Projects may include construction of new trails or repair and maintenance on existing trails.
- Safe operation of various tools and equipment, including but not limited to chainsaws, hand saws, loppers, axes, picks, shovels, rakes, and various hand tools.
- Regular operation of 4x4 trucks, ATVs, and other off-highway vehicles and safe use of these vehicles.
- Works alongside various partner agency employees daily and weekly.
- Works closely alongside fellow crew members and maintains a positive and productive work environment.
- Works safely with a crew, completing heavy physical labor in a variety of weather and climate conditions, including thunderstorms, snow, extreme heat, etc.
- Works in an outdoor environment without constant supervision.
Conditions of Employment
- U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
- Appointment is subject to background investigation.
- You will be required to wear a uniform that complies with Utah DNR standards. A uniform will be provided.
- You will be required to work away from home while camping as needed for multiple consecutive nights.
- You will be required to complete training and demonstrate competent operation of a four-wheel drive vehicle and multiple types of off highway vehicles.
- You will be required to lift objects up to and over 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Successful completion of chainsaw training (provided after start date).
- Successful completion of CPR and Basic First Aid Training (provided after start date).
- Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years old or above.
- Preference is given to candidates that have graduated from high school or been awarded a related vocational certificate.
