Viral NGS Microbiologist II

Are you knowledgeable in microbiology? Do you have experience performing next-generation sequencing (NGS)? The Utah Public Health Laboratory (UPHL) is looking for the right candidate to fill the open role of Viral NGS Microbiologist II. In this role, you will perform next-generation sequencing on infectious disease pathogens, including nucleic acid extraction and NGS library preparation. You will need to meet the CLIA requirements (found HERE) to work in this position.

Responsibilities:
- Process specimens for laboratory analysis
- Perform molecular and sequencing based assays
- Perform test validations
- Drafting, write, and/or update SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and grants
- Evaluate quality control and perform corrective actions
- Perform instrument maintenance
- Troubleshoot interfaces between laboratory equipment and laboratory information systems
- Monitor testing processes for accuracy and timeliness
- Communicate with Epidemiologists and local partners
Minimum Qualifications:
- MUST meet CLIA testing personnel qualifications (click HERE to review the standard qualifications)
- Good communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Meets CLIA testing personnel qualifications (click HERE to review the standard qualifications)
- Previous experience performing next-generation sequencing
- Previous experience working in a clinical laboratory
- Knowledge of molecular biology
- Knowledge of microbiology
Schedule:
This position is typically scheduled Monday - Friday from 8:00AM - 5:00PM.

Physical Requirements:
Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
Salary : $28 - $42
