Overview

The Agency of Transportation (AOT) is seeking a Technician to work in the Plans & Titles Unit of the Right of Way (ROW) section.

As a Technician in this unit, you will perform a wide variety of duties requiring good time management and some analytical thinking. The position involves some knowledge of mathematics relevant to reading and analyzing highway plans and survey plats, and an interest in creating new Right of Way plans using CADD software. The position also includes researching and compiling title abstracts for properties that may be directly affected by our transportation projects. An interest in the legal aspects of real property is helpful. Interpersonal skills are needed for interactions with coworkers and property owners as well as occasional meeting facilitation.


The majority of the work is based at Barre City Place in downtown Barre, and hybrid work may be allowed after an initial training period. A small amount of work involves doing research in town land records around the State, and occasionally meeting with some affected property owners. Environmental Factors

Duties are generally performed in an office, laboratory, and field setting for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Class incumbents may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough, wooded, and steep terrain, travel in boats or work on structures above ground level. Duties may also require exposure to extreme weather conditions. Out of state travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, environmental technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture, construction management, or related technical field.

OR

Associate degree in civil engineering, environmental technology, engineering technology, surveying, construction technology, architecture, construction management, or related field AND two (2) years' experience performing engineering support tasks involved in one or more of the following: planning, surveying, design, inspection, construction, research and statistics, testing, investigation, maintenance or construction of various types of civil engineering projects.

OR

High school graduation or equivalent AND four (4) years of experience as described above.

OR

One (1) year as an AOT Technician I with the State of Vermont.

Special Requirements

Some positions in this job class may require possession of a valid driver's license.
