Overview

Vermont State Parks is seeking a diversely qualified and dynamic person to fill a year-round, fast-paced position directly overseeing the daily operation and maintenance of multiple state parks, a passenger ferry, and a marina. Through collaboration with a dedicated maintenance and regional management team, this role will assist with hiring and supervising a seasonal work force, leading and creating trainings, analyzing and supporting maintenance and operations, providing recommendations on facility and marine fleet planning, and participating in high level policy development. A track record of clear written and verbal communication is essential for this position. Work is often independent and field based.

Preference will be given to the candidates that demonstrate extensive understanding of maritime and marina operations; marketing and outreach; experience in local, state or national park operations and management; customer service; employee supervision, coaching, mediation, and evaluation of a seasonal workforce in a decentralized environment; and designing and implementing training programs for a seasonal workforce. Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a variety of field situations, frequently on boats, frequently in excessively hot or cold weather conditions, in wet weather on slippery surfaces such as docks, fingers and boat decks. Work involves some hazardous materials handling. Work may be performed on Lake Champlain in rough lake conditions. Incumbents must be able to climb ladders, maintain balance on boats during rough, inclement lake conditions and lift heavy weights (50 lbs.). Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment and tools necessary for the job. Frequently sitting for long periods of time will be required in an office environment. Duties require considerable interaction with the public. Position may require weekend work, evening work, overtime hours, and on-call status. Participation in a random drug testing program is required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years or more of experience in park operations, buildings or ground maintenance, recreation, tourism, hospitality, customer service, conservation or a related field.

Two (2) years of full-time college coursework or an Associate's degree which includes coursework in park operations, buildings or ground maintenance, recreation, tourism, hospitality, customer service, conservation or related field.

Basic First Aid Certification and CPR Certification required.

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid Operator's License.

Possession of, or eligible to obtain a valid 50-ton United States Coast Guard Master License or greater within two years of hire.

Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Vermont Boaters' Safety License within 90 days of hire.

Participation in a United States Coast Guard-mandated random drug testing program.

Possession of CPR and Wilderness First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.

NOTE : A Vermont Boaters' Safety License and CPR and Wilderness First Aid certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire as a condition of employment. US Coast Guard 50-ton Master
