Overview

The State Of Vermont Department of Corrections is looking for a Correctional Foreman at Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans.

Duties involve training and supervising incarcerated individuals in license plate manufacturing. You will oversee the production floor, while providing training & instruction on shop safety, the operation of shop tools and equipment. You will also be in charge of job assignment, ordering, inventory of supplies, equipment maintenance, quality control, shipping & receiving, all while following the facility security procedures.

A big part of this job is helping incarcerated individuals develop work ethic and life skills through training in a real-world environment. The Correctional Forman also evaluates inmate training and progress and prepares regular reports.

The successful candidate should possess knowledge of production/manufacturing, equipment maintenance, and working knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in an institutional setting with constant exposure to and interaction with correctional facility residents. Incumbents must be able to operate shop machinery, lift and carry moderately heavy equipment, and supervise correctional facility inmates. An incumbent should possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation AND five (5) years or more experience with woodworking, buildings construction, printing, sheet metal manufacturing, or similar production operations.

OR

Completion of a vocational training program AND one (1) year or more of experience as described above.

Special Requirements

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
