Overview

The Agency of Education (AOE) is looking for an experienced and motivated Education Data Analyst III to join the Data Management and Analysis Division (DMAD). Serving in the Division's Federal Reporting Group (FRG), this role leads significant parts of the collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other special education programs. The successful candidate will proactively ensure the quality and timeliness of special education data reporting while collaborating with other data analysts and special education program staff to inform state decision making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze, and report special education data, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Continuously improve, run, and maintain systems to implement quality checks
  • Disseminate results to stakeholders.
  • Provide data-driven insights and recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders Act as a mentor for staff in Education Data Analyst level I or II role who also work with special education data.
  • Collaborate to establish and validate Source of Truth in Master data systems.

The ideal candidate will have advanced proficiency in Python and SQL, and PowerBI, and strong expertise in data analysis, data science, and data visualization.

This position offers the opportunity for remote work based within Vermont and contiguous states to Vermont but will require regular in-office functions as determined by the Secretary of Education.

Who May Apply Class Definition

This is the third level of three in the Education Data Analyst series. Education Data analysis work for the Vermont Agency of Education (AOE) includes data collection, cleaning, analysis, and reporting at a professional level. Levels within the series are distinguished by experience in technical domain knowledge and business domain knowledge of the data collected, managed, used, and reported by Vermont's education system. Data this series works with are frequently of a confidential and sensitive nature. Work is performed within a supportive team environment, under the direction of a supervisor, Division Director, or other figure in management.

Environmental Factors

Normal office working conditions generally prevail, with remote work conditions a possibility for this role if approved by Division Director. Incumbent must be able to interact, work, and deal with Agency staff, educators, state, federal, and local officials, and the general public. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in social science, mathematics, statistics, data science, or related field AND four (4) years or more at a professional level in quantitative research, statistics, data analysis, data science, or program evaluation.

OR

Six (6) years or more of at a professional level in quantitative research, statistics, data analysis, data science, or program evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing large datasets while ensuring accuracy.

Experience With Special Education Data Strongly Preferred.

Experience with adherence to federal and state regulations.
