Overview

The State Of Vermont Military Department is looking for a Maintenance Specialist II, to work in South Burlington. Military Maintenance Specialists maintain, repair, and enhance military facilities, equipment, and grounds, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and visual appeal. Key Responsibilities include :

Grounds Maintenance :

  • Maintain outdoor spaces by mowing, trimming, and ensuring lawn health.
  • Pruning trees, shrubs, and hedges
  • Planting flowers, trees, and other landscaping features

Equipment Maintenance and Repairs :

  • Perform routine maintenance on seasonal equipment, troubleshoot issues, and conduct inspections to prevent future problems.
  • Snow Removal and Winter Maintenance :

  • Ensure safe passage by clearing snow and ice from walkways, roads, and parking areas. Additional tasks include :
  • Applying materials to improve traction
  • Maintaining snow removal equipment
  • Landscaping and Beautification :

  • Design and implement landscaping projects, maintain irrigation systems, and ensure environmental compliance.
  • Facility Maintenance :

  • Collaborate with other teams to perform routine building maintenance, respond to emergencies, and conduct inspections.
  • Safety and Compliance :

  • Prioritize safety by ensuring regulatory compliance, conducting hazard assessments, and participating in safety training.
  • Team Support :

  • Support colleagues by assisting with tasks, providing guidance, and collaborating with other departments to achieve shared goals.

    Environmental Factors

    Work is performed at military facilities in Vermont. An incumbent often works near or with hazardous materials, including ammunition. Work requires entering confined spaces, removing snow on runways, and exposure to loud noises. An incumbent operates heavy equipment, and must obtain heavy equipment operation certification for tractors, loaders, excavators, forklifts etc. within first six months of employment.

    Since work is performed at a military installation, an incumbent must be eligible to obtain and hold a secret security clearance issued by the federal government. An incumbent must be able to climb ladders and lift equipment and materials weighing as much as fifty pounds. Work is performed in all kinds of weather. Some work outside of normal working hours may be required, including travel and overnight stay.

    Minimum Qualifications

    High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) or more years' experience in building construction, maintenance or a related field

    One (1) or more years as a Military Maintenance Specialist I

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) or more years of work experience in building construction or maintenance
  • Building Trades / Vocational Education
  • Military experience
  • Previous experience working on a military installation
  • Possess a CDL License
  • Special Requirements

    Incumbents of this job may be required to have a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC) issued, which is issued only upon passing a federal background check (Tier 1) including a fingerprint-supported criminal record check. Possession of CAC may be a condition of continued employment according to assigned duties or location."

    Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required for assigned duties
