Overview

Vermont State Parks has a rare opening at our maintenance shop in Marshfield for a qualified maintenance technician. Incumbents perform skilled trades work involving construction, structural maintenance, and repair of buildings, grounds, and utilities such as water and sewage systems for approximately 8 state parks. The use of a variety of construction and mechanical tools, small equipment and vehicles is typical. Lifting heavy weights (up to 75lbs.) is typical. Incumbent will be supervised by the Parks Regional Grounds and Facilities Supervisor.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in shop and field settings both outdoors and inside buildings. Incumbents must be able to climb ladders, lift heavy weights (up to 50 lbs.), and work in cramped, damp, or poorly ventilated areas. Manual dexterity and strict adherence to safety precautions are needed to operate equipment and use tools. Some evening or overtime work may be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.

High school diploma or equivalent AND BOTH two (2) years or more of vocational training in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair AND one (1) year or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.

High school diploma or equivalent AND BOTH two (2) years or more of work experience as a Park Ranger AND one (1) year or more of work experience at or above an apprentice level in building construction, structural maintenance, or automotive, building, or machine repair.
