Supreme Court Chief Justice Elect Debra Stephens is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Judicial Assistant. This position provides a wide variety of administrative staff assistance to various judicial related organizations and performs administrative work in the office of the Chief Justice.
Reporting to the Judicial Administrative Assistant in the Office of the Chief Justice, this position works under general supervision in the performance of a wide range of administrative duties. Interacts regularly with judicial committees and court associations.

Duties
Some of the duties you will perform are:
- Circulates judicial opinions and maintains circulation records.
- Keeps accurate record of case assignments for each court term; organizes, coordinates, and checks the accuracy of confidential data relating to the status and circulation of judicial opinions.
- Observes flow of circulation, calling attention to deadlines; maintains statistical data and compiles weekly and monthly reports on circulation of opinions; develops and maintains circulation computer records and prepares ad hoc reports as requested.
- Composes and prepares memoranda and folders for opinion circulation; initiates correspondence and confers with pro tempore judges relating to opinion matters.
- Assists in development of internal court procedures necessary for implementing programs.
- Maintains information and data on committee appointments and assignments made by the Chief Justice; maintains files of committee reports and action; assembles and summarizes information and data for use by the Chief Justice; drafts related correspondence as requested by the Chief Justice or their Judicial Administrative Assistant.
- At Chief Justice’s request, arranges all aspects of official court receptions and group meetings; oversees and coordinates use of reception room; oversees robe room; coordinates the Justices’ coffee fund.
- Answers correspondence and telephone requests for information assistance as requested by Chief Justice or their Judicial Administrative Assistant.
- Assists the Judicial Administrative Assistant to the Chief Justice with tasks as necessary, including correspondence, memoranda and reports.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
The minimum qualifications for the Supreme Court Judicial Assistant are as follows:
- Associate of Arts degree in business administration, secretarial science, or related field
AND
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible clerical/secretarial experience, two (2) years of which must have been in a legal or court environment, with a demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Word processing experience is required.
Administrative secretarial experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Education may be substituted for non-legal clerical/secretarial experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
- Accuracy and attention to detail in the delivery of work products.

- Skills in using office software and commonly used office equipment.
- Skills in word processing and knowledge of legal terminology, English grammar, spelling, clerical procedures, office procedures, and agency standards.
- Knowledge of legal source materials, forms, and documents.
- Knowledge of the techniques of legal and business correspondence and writing.
- Knowledge of research methods/data collection techniques.
- Knowledge of organization & operation of the WA State court system.
- Knowledge of the internal operations of the Supreme Court and its departments.
- Knowledge of appellate practices/procedures, courts of limited or general jurisdiction.
- Knowledge of forms & documents of appellate court procedures & the legal system.
- Ability to prepare reports independently.
- Ability to apply/interpret court rules, make sound judgments on legal procedures.
- Ability to understand customer expectations and meet those expectations.
- Ability to use computer systems and learn/use new computer applications.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality; sensitivity to critical issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the judiciary, the legal community, agencies throughout government, co-workers and the public.
- Ability to consistently act with professionalism and integrity in dealing with public, clients and co-workers at all levels.
- Ability to multi-task and effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to effectively manage time to meet deadlines and work schedules.
- Ability to analyze effectively and exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
