About the position:
This position provides direct health care services to students from grade Pre-K – 12th. The Washington School for the Deaf operates a Student Health Center Sunday through Friday. This position provides coverage on an on-call basis for day and swing shifts and shifts can be assigned with little notice.

Qualifications

  • Willing and able to work with little notice to cover for staff absences.
  • Assess the physical and emotional health of students within the scope of school nurse practice.
  • Initiate referrals for further diagnosis and treatment of identified health needs and provide follow-up.
  • Consult and communicate health concerns that may impact learning to appropriate staff with parent and/or student consent.
  • Contact parents and appropriate staff in the case of an emergency.
  • Assess and provide for the critical needs of students.
  • Medication administration; keeps exceptional documentation.
  • Provide report on PRN administered medication to delegated unlicensed professionals and oncoming nurse.
  • Communicate pertinent assessments to oncoming nurse at the end of shift.
  • Provide health counseling and crisis intervention and serve as an advocate for the health rights of students and as a professional liaison between the school, family, and health community. Communicate with parents as needed.
  • Perform professional school nursing tasks as indicated and assigned, including emergency services.
  • Ability to exercise sound nursing judgment, and always consider student safety, while working autonomously.

Salary information:

Salary is set using the State of Washington General government pay scales (Range 58N)
