The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Fiscal Analyst 2 at Headquarters in Tumwater, Washington, on a full-time, permanent basis.
The Department of Corrections (DOC) utilizes a centralized Accounts Payable Administration model to provide financial services to 11 prisons, 12 work release facilities, 101 Community Corrections field offices, Community Justice Centers, (COP) Shops, and outstations and our Agency Headquarters, all geographically disbursed throughout the State of Washington. The centralized Accounts Payable department will process combined vendor payments for the agency in excess of $327 million annually.

Duties
- Monitor, maintain and process assigned payment groups including housing vouchers
- Interpret and apply DOC policy, WAC and RCW in responding to inquiries
- Develop and maintain internal accounting systems for assigned payment processing and expenditure tracking.
- Prepare entries to encumber or liquidate purchase orders and analyze data for accuracy
- Track predictable monthly recurring payments and submit monthly accrual information by deadline.
- Audit batches prepared and entered by fiscal staff
- Monitor and maintain AFRS error file
- Be a resource to staff to determine appropriate corrections
Perform lead duties to junior-level staff in Disbursements
- Provide leadership, instruction and training to staff
- Give guidance and constructive feedback
- Inform supervisors of any issues
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- One year of relevant professional experience. Relevant experience is defined as Fiscal Analyst 1 or above level work.
Provided that a candidate possesses a degree focused on accounting or business management/administration: an AA degree can be equivalent to 1 year required work experience, and BA degree or above can be equivalent to 2 years of required work experience. Equivalencies to be reviewed by Comptroller/designee, degrees outside of focused areas will NOT count towards experience requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional relevant professional experience at Fiscal Analyst 1 level.
- A business focused bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent, with minimum 20 accounting credits to include Accounting 201, 202, 203 and Governmental Accounting.
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment
- Completion of Accounting 201, Accounting 202, and Governmental Accounting from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent within six months from date of hire.
