About the DivisionThe Business Resources Division (BRD) within DES provides a number of services to state agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations. Services provided by the division include Print and Mail Production Services, Fleet Operations, and Surplus Operations. 2 – Mail Processing Driver
2 - Mail Carrier Driver Lead
This is a fast-paced office/warehouse environment and is routinely dictated by set delivery schedules and customer needs. This position requires the necessity to constantly manage multiple tasks. You will need to be able to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods in addition to working in noisy conditions without loss of concentration. Other job duty requirements are lifting mail trays, tubs and/or packages weighing up to 70 lbs. Some work may require getting in/out of vehicles of varying sizes, processing mail on mail equipment, resolving mechanical problems and breakdowns, working outdoors in inclement weather, and physical demands of loading and unloading heavy items are to be expected.
Although the weekly schedule is Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 4:00 pm, this position will sometimes require working evenings and weekends. The daily workload requires some flexibility to meet business and or customer needs. Local travel for meetings, committees, and customer visits is normal several times per week. Additional infrequent travel may be necessary that varies from 5 miles to 250 miles per day. You are expected to be on-call for customer support, staff, safety, and security issues at all times of the day or night. Reliable and timely attendance is essential.
This position is recognized as Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP) Designation – for Disaster or Emergency Recovery. This means that during a recognized emergency, duties may be different from normal duties and would be temporary in nature, lasting only as long as necessary to resume normal operations.

Duties
Some of what you will be doing:
Mailing Solutions Specialist for Washington State Government
- Analyzes new mail technology for cost effectiveness, recommending changes as necessary
- Provides program wide industry research and development to enhance current and future business needs
- Develops and interprets policies/procedures and sets standards for specific activities
- Anticipates potential conflicts and attempts a resolution before problems occur
- Helps state procure new mail service and equipment contracts
Supervise staff and oversee/coordinate day-today presort section operations
- Leads day shift Presort section production and quality control activities
- Interacts daily with direct reports on Presort day shift and elevates issues to Mail Production Manager when necessary
- Helps determine priorities, set objectives, and coordinate resources (equip/staffing) within the Presort area
- Uses whatever resources are available to ensure Presort day shift is running efficiently and that mail is processed in a timely cost-effective manner
- Prepares and maintains reports and recommendations or directs staff engaged in these tasks
- Presort Section lead for SOP development and maintenance
- Facilitates compliance of presort and metering quality control measures
- Ensures shift has meaningful huddles each day
- Backfills Mail Production Manager as necessary and assists other sections within CMS per need - as knowledge, skills and abilities allow
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of experience in a mail, warehouse, production or service industry environment
OR -
A combination of relevant experience
AND - Possess a valid unrestricted driver's license free of serious traffic violations
- Willing to undergo a background check as a condition of employment
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
- Mail Design Professional (MDP). If an employee is not MDP certified upon hire, the hiring manager/supervisor may allow up to six months to attain certification
- Must possess a clean driver’s abstract
