The Office of Financial Services drives work done in budgeting, grants, contracting, and fiscal management to support DOH’s mission. We are seeking two highly motivated Accounting Services Supervisors to lead financial professionals within the Accounting Services unit. This position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations while guiding staff through daily fiscal operations.
In this role, you will:
- Supervise staff handling accounts receivable, payable, travel reimbursements, and general accounting functions.
- Monitor and evaluate staff performance; deliver timely feedback and development.
- Assign, direct, and adjust workflow to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.
- Audit and approve financial transactions, payment batches, and journal vouchers.
- Ensure transactions are accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable standards.
- Assist in fiscal year-end close and reporting activities.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure timely adjustments to clearing accounts.
- Interpret and apply SAAM, RCWs, WACs, and GAAP policies.
- Respond to inquiries from DOH staff regarding fiscal requirements and compliance.
- Work with division leadership to ensure continuity of accounting services.

Location and Flexibility
Required Qualifications (you must meet ONE of the provided options and any additional criteria listed):
Option 1: Five (5) or more years of accounting or finance experience, including experience interpreting and enforcing financial policy and procedures, and state and federal laws and rules. AND Five (5) or more years of experience analyzing and interpreting financial reports in order to adjust entries, correct discrepancies, and prepare documents; audit transaction records and other fiscal records to ensure accuracy.
Option 2: A Bachelor’ degree in Accounting, Business Administration or closely allied field; which includes the successful completion of 12 Quarter hours (or semester hour equivalent) college-level coursework in accounting, auditing, budgeting or finance; AND two (2) or more years of experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, finance, or related financial field.
AND for both options:
- A year (1) or more of experience providing training, support, feedback and guidance to staff in the performance of financial or accounting functions and activities.
- Microsoft Excel – Intermediate ability to develop and manipulate complex spreadsheets with macros, multiple math functions, advanced filters, and links to external sources of information. Create custom toolbars and chart types, pivot tables, import data from other sources, filter lists, and use data analysis tools.
- Microsoft Word – Intermediate ability to create, format, and edit tables, charts and graphs; insert and format sections, create headers and footers, and work with pictures and draw objects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of Washington State accounting policies and procedures.
- Two (2) or more years of lead, supervisory, or management experience to include coaching, mentoring, training, and corrective action.

This position does not have union representations and is not covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
