Our Human Resources Division is recruiting for a Human Resources Consultant with expertise in building trust, providing guidance on complex topics, helping people work through and resolve conflicts to join their team.

Duties

As a Human Resources Consultant, you will be responsible for providing consistent and legally defensible risk-based HR consultation to agency executives, managers, supervisors, and employees regarding highly complex and multidimensional issues. Your ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a people-focused approach will be key to your success as you respond to difficult, stressful, or sensitive interpersonal situations in ways that reduce or defuse potential conflict and mitigate risk to the agency. Your work will directly contribute to our agency's mission of helping every Washington resident live, work, drive, and thrive.

Some of what you will do:
  • Build, maintain, and enhance effective business & professional relationships, within, across, and external to the agency.
  • Provide advice and guidance related to employee misconduct, performance management, and cases of reasonable suspicion
  • Collaborate with managers, supervisors, and employees to identify and facilitate training requirements in areas such as HR topics
  • Coordinate with other HR professionals and HR leadership on allegations of workplace misconduct that may require formal investigation.

Qualifications

What you will bring:
Four (4) years of professional level broad based Human Resources Consulting experience, including facilitating organizational development or change, advising, and consulting on human resources issues.

Experience must include:
  • One (1) year of experience identifying, interpreting, applying and explaining employment laws, rules and policies such as Collective Bargaining Agreement’s, the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC).
  • Three (3) years of experience independently composing and formatting professional emails, memos, letters, and other documents using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Three (3) years of experience using Microsoft Products. This may include Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent and responsive customer service to all internal and external customers by listening attentively, identifying issues, providing options, fulfilling services, and exercising knowledge of applicable laws and regulations to provide technical assistance or resolve problems.
  • The ability to independently assess a situation and/or analyze information and apply appropriate judgement using existing knowledge and resources to determine a logical and accurate course of action, recommendation, or solution.
  • The ability to effectively handle highly stressful or adverse situations, making good decisions, working calmly and accurately and helping to calm others.
  • The ability to understand and follow the agency values of respect, trust, diversity, equity and inclusion through behaviors and decisions.
  • The ability to effectively prioritize tasks in the presence of competing demands.
  • The ability to facilitate meetings, presentations, workshops and training sessions.

Experience can be gained concurrently.

A Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources, employment law, public administration, or a related field may substitute for three (3) years of experience.


What may help set you apart:
  • Professional Human Resources Certification such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP.
  • Advanced degree in business, Human Resources, employment law, public administration, or a related field.
  • Six (6) months of experience in hosting mediations in the workplace to assist employees in resolving conflicts.
Additional Conditions of employment:
  • The ability to travel statewide, sometimes overnight.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • This position is expected to work on site full time during the training phase. Once training is completed, this position will be required to work on site a minimum of three (3) days per week and may change based on business need.
