DSHS ALTSA Nursing Consultant Institutional - Complaint Investigator

State of Washington Dept. of Social and Health...
Lakewood, WA Full Time
POSTED ON 1/21/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/21/2025

Description

DSHS is recruiting for a Nurse Consultant Institutional Complaint Investigator to join our Residential Care Services team in the Lakewood and Tumwater area.

We are seeking a self-motivated person with critical-thinking skills, who is ready for their next career move. In this role, your dedication supports our goals of advocacy for vulnerable populations as part of the Aging and Long-term Support Administration. You will travel individually, or as a team member, conducting and coordinating on-site inspections in adult family homes and assisted living facilities.

This job is important as it ensures that resident care is appropriate and supports stability for residents living in community settings. This role is a non-permanent position expecting to last one year.

Here are a few good reasons why you should consider this career opportunity:

  • You'll be able to add new skills and knowledge to your nursing and vulnerable adult long-term care "tool kit".
  • You're assigned to a wide variety of locations which keeps your workday interesting with ongoing advocacy for residents.
  • You'll receive an excellent benefits package that rivals any employer in Washington State.

Some of what you will do:
  • Travel to Assisted Living Facility and Adult Family Homes in the region to conduct on-site state licensure inspections; this can involve visiting a facility for consecutive days until the inspection is complete.
  • Manage workload and timelines including preparation, and completion of inspections, and create accurate and timely finding reports (i.e., statements of deficiencies).
  • Observe resident services and care within the physical environment in which the services are provided.
  • Conduct interviews with residents, family members, and other community representatives to obtain information regarding satisfaction with the care and services provided.
  • Obtain information regarding nursing care and services from medical records, facility staff, and other sources.
  • Communicate findings with providers throughout the inspection process.
  • Communicate with team members, providers, staff, residents, and resident representatives.
  • Complete timely computer input (i.e. start and exit dates, statements of deficiencies, investigation summary reports) into the required state data systems.
  • Participate in all required education, training, and administrative hearings.

Fast forward six months, you will collaborate with peers regarding inspection findings, analysis of findings, and decision-making pertaining to facility failed practice, related to and not limited to abuse and neglect, resident rights, and care issues. You will participate in administrative hearings and train others in regulatory practice.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Solid computer skills in charting, documenting findings (interviews, summaries, reports), legal documents. Teams and Outlook are a bonus.
  • Healthcare facility background.
  • Basic use of various databases to enter data and write required reports.
  • Evaluation of health care and residential care services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, peers, clients, and the public.
  • Principles and practices of public health fields, community organizations, and resources, effective teaching methods, research and study methods.
  • Strength in writing and documentation.

This job is classified as a Nurse Consultant Institutional Complaint Investigator. It is important to note that you will travel individually and/or in teams, usually during the workweek, but this may require continuous days of work and can include site visits. This job is a hybrid position that entails working from the office in Lakewood and Tumwater, WA, working out in the field, and working from home. The position has the availability of a compressed work schedule.
