DSHS Regional Administrator
The Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) is seeking a great collaborator, team builder, and communicator for the executive-level opportunity of Regional Administrator. We're seeking a strong leader and change agent to join our executive leadership team in Region 2, which includes King, Snohomish, Skagit, Island, San Juan and Whatcom counties. You'll be instrumental in transforming the service delivery system for clients of DDA. You'll have the opportunity to work on challenging projects, collaborate with a highly skilled team, and contribute to a culture that values creativity, innovation, collaboration, diversity and employee well-being. Our ideal applicant is an experienced leader of large teams who can make fast and efficient decisions. You'll work with local legislative representatives around policy and client issues, establish and maintain positive public relations through community educational efforts and serve as the primary regional contact for media inquiries and coordinate with the DSHS media affairs office as necessary.
In the role of Regional Administrator for Region 2 (Download PDF reader), you will have the highest level of authority in regional operations, encompassing responsibility for staffing more than 400 staff positions, ensuring needed services are provided to 28,000 DDA clients across 6 counties, risk management, oversight of more than 500 contracts, and managing a regional operations budget of more than $51 million annually.
A hybrid telework schedule is available, although occasional travel is necessary due to work expectations. King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use.
Some of what you will do
- Hire and supervise regional managers in 6 counties who deliver a broad range of programs serving over 28,000 clients by utilizing solution-focused management standards to sustain and improve service throughout the region; achieve continuous quality improvement
- Provide strategic planning, guidance, and leadership to the regional management team in critical areas of budget management, program implementation, and client services for persons with developmental disabilities
- Ensure region-wide compliance with policies safety, and management expectations for the integrated, consistent management of services
- Evaluate, interpret, and implement departmental policy, federal and state laws, regulations, and policies as they apply to regional operations; develop and implement programs and plans; evaluate regional plans, policies, and operating standards
- Build partnerships with sister agencies, Tribal nations, a wide variety of service providers, and community-based organizations
- Monitor regional budget and supply oversight of expenses
- Manage crisis circumstances; respond to inquiries
Who should apply
- Professionals with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social services, human services, healthcare, business or public administration, finance or related field. Experience may substitute year for year for education.
- 7 years of high-level managerial experience leading multi-level units and with a proven record of accomplishment for effective team management, results-driven leadership, excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- 3 years of experience developing and implementing programs providing services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, public health, mental health or other related areas.
- Demonstrated success in community development, planning and assessment while fostering collaborations among partners within community-based organizations.
- An innovative and inspiring leader with a strong commitment to staff and in providing culturally competent services to individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to successfully develop, monitor, negotiate and defend multi-million dollar annual operating budget, while establishing best use of limited resources.
