Here's your chance to join a dynamic team delivering quality professional HR expertise and value-added support services that DSHS's Office of the Secretary (OOS), Human Resources Division customers rely on. You will empower staff and customers to be the best as they serve the citizens of Washington State. Your reward will be the contribution you make every day to your team providing HR support to your customers and participating in an HR organization sought out by your customers. Your specialized HR/employee relations work will center around consulting on employment law, Collective Bargaining agreements and WAC/RCW’s.
This role offers a hybrid telework schedule with at least two days per week on site-one of which will be Wednesdays. The service you provide primarily supports the Special Commitment Center within the Behavioral Health Administration within DSHS.
Some of what you will do
- Deliver professional-level HR consultation to appointing authorities, senior managers, and supervisors on employee relations issues.
- Demonstrate your initiative and innovative thinking when connecting with customers, building trust, and instilling confidence in those you support.
- Supervise one HR Consultant 3.
- Generate significant recommendations to appointing authorities on addressing personnel issues, achieving organizational goals, and making factual recommendations.
- Draft pre-disciplinary and disciplinary letters, separation letters, alternative assignment letters, and other HR-related correspondence.
- Interpret and apply Federal and Washington State HR laws, DSHS policies, and rules to provide informative consultation to appointing authorities, managers, and staff.
Who should apply
- Professionals with 9 years* of full-time experience consulting on human resource issues.
- A bachelor's degree with a focus on business, human resources, social or organizational behavioral sciences, or related field will substitute for 4 years of above work experience, while a master's degree in HR may substitute for 6 years of work experience.
- Human Resources certification preferred.
- Demonstrate a detailed application and understanding of laws, rules, WACs, union contracts.
- Experience supervising, motivating, developing, coaching, and leading subordinate staff or other teams.
- Effective management skills serving as a consultant to business partners and staff.
- Providing options and advice to resolve highly complex human resource issues.
- Advocate for fair and equitable treatment of employees and work to achieve the highest level of employee morale and productivity.
- Manage change and influence positive management and workforce relationships.
- Governmental public personnel human resource management experience.
- Independently analyze highly complex human resource issues and develop solutions.
SCC employees also receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to advertised salary and a free ORCA card for transportation use. Ferry transportation is provided to McNeil Island employees.
