DSHS SCC Nursing Assistant - Certified
Join our team at the Special Commitment Center (SCC), situated within the Total Confinement Facility (TCF) on McNeil Island in the picturesque Puget Sound. We are a highly structured and secure treatment facility dedicated to assisting individuals who are detained and/or civilly committed in addressing their sexual offending histories. If you are a CNA who thrives in a challenging environment, we have a unique opportunity for you to join our nursing team in the Medical Clinic.
At SCC, we value our employees and offer additional benefits. In addition to the advertised salary, our employees receive a $10 per day premium pay and a free Orca card for transportation use. Furthermore, ferry transportation is provided to McNeil Island employees from the Steilacoom dock. Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.Two shift schedules available: 6:00am - 4:00pm Sunday - Wednesday and Wednesday to Saturday 6:00am - 4:00pm.
Ferry departure is at 0520.
Ferry return is 1640.
Some of what you'll do:
- Assist residents with personal care and daily living activities such as bathing, personal grooming, hygiene, dressing, eating, and ambulation
- Perform nursing procedures such as taking a pulse, temperatures, manual and orthostatic blood pressure measurements, and non-invasive lab procedures
- Document changes in resident activity and symptoms
- Apply external appliances such as braces, dentures, and hearing aides
- Respond to emergencies and assist in applying restraints
- Maintain cleanliness, stock supplies, and perform clerical duties
We are looking for Nursing Assistants with:
- High School diploma
- And, a Washington State license to practice as a "Nursing Assistant - Certified"
- And, six months of experience involving customer service in a health care setting, or six months of experience involving direct patient care, or equivalent education/experience

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of basic nursing and restorative care, personal hygiene and sanitation methods, infection control procedures, and patient/resident rights
- Ability to provide a positive living environment for residents meeting psychosocial needs
- Ability to ride to the work location on a ferry and shuttle
