The Opportunity
What to Expect
- Plan, schedule, and direct operations, maintenance, and repair activities.
- Receives and inspects equipment as they enter the shop.
- Coordinate how and where the equipment will be repaired. Assign to other personnel and inspect when the job is complete.
- Oversee the Preventive Maintenance program and assist with equipment operator training.
- Schedule, transport, and monitor warranty work provided by contract vendors.
- Coordinate repair work with Area Maintenance, Signals, Bridge, Traffic, Engineers, Seattle Shop, and/or outside vendors
- Monitors shoo safety and ensure shop cleanliness.
- Repair, overhaul and maintain heavy equipment and other types of equipment used in the maintenance and construction of roadways, in some cases, may design equipment.
- Operates a specially equipped mechanics field service truck out of the Mt. Vernon shop and makes mechanical repairs and adjustments or improvises emergency repairs when needed.
- Operate snow and ice removal equipment.
- Move in, on, and around equipment for the purposes of servicing, repairs, and testing.
- Operate shop equipment such as welders, drill press, grinder, press, hoist, air tools, forklifts, saws. computerized diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and jacks.
- Stand stationary for periods up to 30 minutes at a time and alternate between standing and walking up to 10 hours per work shift.
- Physically transport and manipulate objects weighing up to 50-pounds in a safe manner.
- Use both hands for grasping, gripping, twisting, and fine finger manipulation.
- Work with tools and parts in hand(s) with arms outstretched in front of body, above shoulder level, below waist level and while laying on back.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three (3) years of experience as a journey-level mechanic maintaining and repairing heavy-duty equipment, OR journey-level standing as a heavy equipment mechanic, demonstrated by completion of a recognized apprenticeship, OR by journey-level standing as recognized by a labor union.
- Ability to communicate in writing, verbally, and through the use of a computer to lead, instruct, schedule, and disseminate information concerning the shop's operation.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with “N” and Air Brake endorsements, no automatic transmission restriction and DOT Medical Certification within 6 months of hire date.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- Successful completion of vocational technical training in heavy equipment, light vehicles and/or industrial commercial equipment repair, including welding/fabrication.
Important Notes
- This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs.
- This position is not eligible for remote work.
- An additional 20% assignment pay is added to the posted salary.
- This is a night shift position. The schedule is Tuesday – Saturday 8:00 pm – 6:30 am.
- In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
