What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Highway Maintenance Supervisor will:
- Supervise, budget, and schedule maintenance crews in highway maintenance operations, specialized maintenance repairs, vegetation management, pesticide application, snow and ice control and reconstruction of roadway features.
- Provide ongoing development and implementation of maintenance activities and procedures with the Eastern Region WSDOT Area 4.
- Mentor and develop team members in highway maintenance work, leadership, and team building.
- Manage consumable inventory, including purchasing, record keeping, and budgeting.
- Prioritize and assign work to maintenance personnel, and schedule equipment and materials as needed.
- Prepare records and reports pertaining to work accomplished, expenditures and emergency situations.
- Act as a first responder at accident scenes, spills, or other emergency situations.
- Work with the local County Weed Boards to manage the Integrated Vegetation Management program.
Qualifications
- Three (3) years of experience performing roadway maintenance, or heavy equipment operation or equivalent experience.
- Possession of Class A CDL with N endorsement without airbrake restrictions or acquire with 6 months of hire.
- Possession of Washington State Pesticide Applicators License or acquire within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to and work in all weather conditions and traverse rough, steep terrain.
- Ability to work alternate shifts and respond to emergency situations 24/7 as needed, including nights, weekends, holidays, standby, overtime, and callout.
- Ability to report in service to assigned duty station with 45 minutes of an after-hours call out.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse and inclusive environment, and to multiple audiences, both orally and in writing.
- Experience adhering to safety policies and diligence performing work in a safe manner.
- Skills to effectively operate electronic equipment including computers, iPads, radios, and telephones.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- High School Graduation, or possession of GED Certificate, or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker 3.
