We're looking for your expertise! Our team is hiring a full-time Staff Development Coordinator (RN3) at the Washington Veterans Home in scenic Port Orchard, Washington!
Please Note: The expected work hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step T. Step U has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.
Position(s) at this location will also receive 5% Premium Pay for facilities open twenty four hours per day. Employees must physically work at the facility 3 days per workweek to qualify. The 5% Premium Pay is in effect until June 29th, 2025.

In addition, we provide critical community services through a variety of programs, and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.
Duties
Some of what you'll do:
- Coordinate and direct all staff training activities within the Washington Veterans Home.
- Develop an annual training master calendar to schedule all mandatory training for each calendar year; develop and publish monthly and weekly training calendars.
- Modify the training schedule to meet the needs of various departments; collaborate with each department head to ensure departmental needs are met.
- Monitor and maintain training records for all staff at the Washington Veterans Home; run reports for management and supervisors as needed.
- Participate in the development, coordination, and implementation of New Employee Orientation in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Respond to newly identified training needs in a proactive manner.
- Facilitate training opportunities for community agencies.
- Ensure staff have basic computer skills and can utilize commonly used programs at WDVA such as ESS, email, and the education/learning management program; assist staff in expanding knowledge and use of software programs.
- Assist staff with familiarization and use of electronic medical records (PointClickCare) and automated pharmacy dispensing unit (AlixaRx).
- Attend meetings, serve on committees, and represent nursing in interdepartmental activities.
- Serve as weekend, day-shift supervisor on a rotating basis to ensure senior nursing leadership is available and to provide management oversight on weekends.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the QAPI/Infection Control Professional to support initiatives for improvement of nursing care services.
- Identify new trends in care delivery, changes to nursing standards, and advances in nursing practice.
- Assist as needed in the delivery of routine patient care as delivered by registered nurses.

Qualifications
Required:
- Valid Washington state registered nurse license or unencumbered registered nurse multistate license.
- Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse.

Possess the following competencies:
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, interpersonal communication skills, and detail-oriented.
- Mastery of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access, and Excel.
- Knowledge of accurate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care; personal hygiene and sanitation methods, recordkeeping, report preparation, infection control procedures, and resident rights.
- Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records.
- Knowledge of long-term care regulations.
Preferred/Desired:
- Valid Washington state registered nurse license.
- Bachelor's degree involving major study in nursing.
- Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse.
- Recent experience in staff development.
- Supervisory experience.
- Long-term care experience.

Ability to:
- Recognize the importance of resident-centered care and need to identify psychosocial needs.
- Serve as an effective and positive role model to staff.
- Possess an understanding of accurate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care.
- Experience in assessing, evaluating, and participating in the development of appropriate plans of care.
Special Requirements:
- Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.
- Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards. Must be able to wear a respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protection as required by a job or task.
- Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
- Must maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Must successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation, and all other mandatory annual, in-service and other required training.
- Must obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.
- Must maintain a valid RN license.
- Must have the ability to speak, read, and write in the English language for medical charts and data entry.
- Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver's license and must be insured if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
- Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
