If so, the Criminal Convictions Records Unit, at the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC), may have your next profession opportunity! We are searching the next Correctional Records Technician (CRT) whose goal is to complete the Criminal Conviction Records (CCR) process for sentenced individuals who are currently under DOC supervision or incarcerated.
As a Correctional Records Technician, you will be tasked with creating the incarcerated individuals Risk Level Classification (RLC), in addition to reviewing, analyzing and researching a variety of official sources to include in contacting Records offices and/or institutions to obtain criminal conviction data. The CCR unit applies RCW’s and department Policies to determine community supervision eligibility and Offender Release Plans.
The candidate of choice must have exceptional confidentiality skills while also analyzing and solving problems under highly stressful or adverse situations.

As a Correctional Records Technician, some of your duties will include:
- Completing the Criminal Conviction Record process for sentenced individuals upon initial intake/admission process which could look like:
- Obtaining/requesting necessary resource documents
- Researching unusual Washington State crimes
- Researching out-of-state crimes
- Researching/reviewing available DOC records and Court documents
- Thoroughly reviewing all criminal conviction sources
- Entering the cause data in the Criminal Conviction Records
- Determining DOC jurisdiction in regards to supervision in accordance with RCW 9.94A.501
- Meetings/Trainings
- Administrative Requests
- Other duties as assigned
What we need (required qualifications):
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must respect and maintain confidentiality
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, the public, and/or criminal justice agencies
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems under highly stressful or adverse situations
What will make your application stand out (preferred qualifications):
- Two (2) years of experience maintaining or processing offender records in a government or law enforcement office, court setting or an adult or juvenile correctional agency
*College level coursework in criminal justice, business administration, accounting, social science or a related field will substitute for one (1) year of experience
- Knowledge of criminal history document processing

Telework Details
This position may be allocated for telework. Work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service at that time. Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner, to take proper care all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite. Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process. Some offices will have a “drop in” area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility will not be provided.
