DSHS DVR Rehabilitation Technician 1

The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) has an opportunity for a permanent Rehabilitation Technician to provide outstanding customer service to support our Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors (VRC’s) and other professional staff in Puyallup, WA. You will be the first line of contact for applicants with disabilities to achieve competitive employment and will provide assistance performing a full range of functions in areas such as direct customer services, client orientations, eligibility preparation, and monitoring service delivery plans.

Note: Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Some of what you'll do
 
  • Conduct interviews with potential customers to explain VR programs and begins collecting information to be used in eligibility determination.
  • Process application Information and schedule client appointments to meet with VRC’s.
  • Assist VRC’s in collecting diagnostic information to be used in determining eligibility.
  • Assist VRC’s in monitoring customer progress towards achieving the employment goal.
  • Assist VRC’s and customers in gathering information needed to develop the Individual Plan for Employment, including assistance contacting, and selecting vendors.
  • Register vendors that provide goods and services to DVR customers.
  • Prepare correspondence to customers, vendors, and others.
  • Maintain electronic and paper case files.
  • Assist with general office coverage and support, including answering telephones, providing reception, distributing mail, and other similar tasks.      

What we're looking for: 
 
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Experience working with and exposure to disabilities.
  • Experience using MS Word, Outlook, and internet browsers.
  • Record keeping experience.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly motivated people with demonstrated observation skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
  • A self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Team player who understands the importance of collaboration with community partners and co-workers.

Who should apply?

 
Professionals with two years of college-level coursework and one year of experience providing direct customer service in a non-retail environment.

Additional related experience and education could substitute the year for the above.
