DSHS ESH Mental Health Technician 2 - Driver  Consider this exciting job opportunity if you are devoted to providing inpatient care to people seeking healing from behavioral health diagnoses. Eastern State Hospital (ESH) is seeking a Mental Health Technician 2 (MHT 2) to join our team in Medical Lake, WA. The MHT 2, who must have a valid Washington State Driver's License, will be responsible for transporting and escorting patients to appointments and activities both on and off the ESH campus and to discharge destinations. Additionally, the MHT 2 will facilitate the exchange of clinical information between outside providers and ESH staff. As assigned, they will provide patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse to patients with acute psychiatric and physical illnesses and those exhibiting high-risk behaviors.  Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.     Some of what you will do

  • Transports and escorts patients to on-campus and off-campus activities, appointments, and discharge destinations.
  • Provides direct nursing care, including monitoring patients' behavior and reporting observations to RN staff.
  • Delivers care according to the treatment plan.
  • Communicates information to RN3 regarding changes in conditions and clinical details.
  • Completes documentation, including recording and maintaining records of patients' conditions and activities, such as vital signs, eating habits, behaviors, and responses to therapeutic interventions.
  • Uses approved de-escalation skills with patients, emphasizing the use of less restrictive interventions.
  • Facilitates the exchange of clinical information between outside providers and ESH staff.Who should apply
  • Those with a high school diploma or GED
  • And, a current WA Nursing Assistant Registration (NAR) or Nursing Assistant Certification (NAC / CNA), or Medical Assistant (MA)
  • And, a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.Preferred knowledge, skills, & abilities :
  • Patience in delivering quality health care and daily living assistance.
  • As a team member, willing to deescalate behavioral health issues in a calm, non-threatening manner.
  • Comprehend and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with patients, peers, management, and the public.
  • Capable to provide patient safety and comfort through attention to their general health and assistance in accomplishing daily hygiene issues.All MHTs receive classroom and on-the-job training related to patient interaction, facility rules and procedures, and ward observation.  The goal class for this role described above is for a Mental Health Technician 2. We may consider applicants at the MHT2 level if you have two years of work experience in the direct care of people diagnosed with behavioral health issues or needing behavioral health care services, or completion of a 12-month in-training plan as a MHT1.  Starting salary depends on your qualifications.
