An Enterprise Architect assists the Architecture & Strategy Manager in setting the strategic direction and approach of an organization's computing assets, improves the Agency’s IT systems and computing platforms while optimizing business operations. The Enterprise Architect works to integrate the organization's information applications and programs into general business processes.
Enterprise Architects are responsible for designing architecture for the organization on an enterprise level covering the 5 domains of Enterprise Architecture (business, systems/applications, data, infrastructure, and security). They define system and application architecture and provide vision, problem anticipation and problem-solving ability to the organization. Enterprise Architects participate in creating strategies and policies to meet overall business goals. They oversee and assist agency Solutions Architects in the overall enterprise architecture and provide guidance for improvements to engineering teams and management. Reporting to the Office of Architecture and Strategy Manager, this expert level professional works under general supervision to develop strategic system architecture and designs in support of projects and applications primarily but not limited to the Courts Lines of Business. This position also interacts regularly with Solutions Architects, executive leadership, agency supervisors and management, all levels of division staff, and staff assigned to specific projects.

This position requires 1 day per week working onsite at AOC facilities
- Coordinates the development and maintenance of enterprise strategy and roadmap in support of the business strategy, goals, and objectives; works to combine procedures, strategies, and information technology into one cohesive business environment; participates in the ongoing development and evolution of information technology for the AOC Judicial Information System portfolio of products and services.
- Manages AOC standards and policies in all five domains of enterprise architecture by evaluating, on an ongoing basis, technology requirements and architectural constraints provided by all enterprise stakeholders.
- Drives the process of cultural and technical change required to achieve Enterprise Architecture (EA) goals; provides education services to key internal and external stakeholders, ranging from on-on-one meetings to formal training for ensuring that the EA Standards and guidelines are understood by the enterprise; communicates updates of EA standards.
- Works with other senior technical staff to ensure integration strategies act cohesively within the larger Enterprise Architecture; provides consulting services to project managers and technical teams within the AOC in order to effectively structure and guide implementation of technology roadmap.
- Develops policies to support uniform focus on technology that is essential to the justice partners within the enterprise and the implementation of efficient, cost-effective mission critical applications systems to support the Washington State judicial services.
- Provides IT recommendations to Judicial Information Systems Committee (JISC) and other judicial committees; facilitates and enhances communications and relationships with and among members of judicial committees.
- Verifies that solution architecture complies with architecture roadmap/standards; controls exemptions; determines if architecture standard changes may be needed; provides ongoing assessment to ISD managers regarding the degree of compliance of ISD staff and contractor personnel with the AOC enterprise architecture.
- Researches business and technology trends that may benefit or impact the enterprise; participates in pilots, proof-of-concept work and feasibility studies; incorporates research into enhancing the enterprise architecture roadmaps and strategies.
- Responsible for communicating and educating all stakeholders on the established strategies, standards and enterprise direction.
- Performs other duties as required.
Additional qualifying experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
- Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or post-graduate work preferred
AND
- Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience working in the development and design of complex information systems, IT Design, Enterprise strategies and service management, and use of architecture frameworks.

- Knowledge of industry standard enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, etc.
