About the position

This position is part of the integration services team with WaTech’s Computing Services Division. The Integration services team provides seamless integration solutions to all Washington state agencies, enabling them to connect applications, data, and devices efficiently. With the growing demand for digital transformation, our Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) offers scalable, secure, and cost-effective integration services. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Computing Services.


As the Lead Integration Platform Architect, you will ensure the successful development, deployment, and optimization of the integration platform by aligning product strategies with the WaTech’s business goals. This role is pivotal in driving the platform’s success by defining its vision and roadmap, overseeing feature development, and ensuring value delivery.


Some of what to expect with this role:

  • Define a clear product vision and multi-phase roadmap, conduct workshops with internal and external business partners, review industry trends, and analyze organizational goals.
  • Ensure effective collaboration with agency partners, organize regular meetings, conduct interviews, and use tools like JIRA to manage and prioritize feature requests.
  • Create agile development cycles that are managed, conduct testing and validation phases, and oversee the final deployment of updates to ensure successful product delivery.
  • Track system performance by using analytics tools to monitor metrics such as uptime and response times, collect end-user feedback through surveys.
  • Monitor the budget by ensuring financial reports are regularly reviewed, confirming expenditures are approved, and assessing resource allocation to ensure alignment with project needs.
  • Monitor performance trends, ensure issues are documented, and address recurring challenges in alignment with WaTech policy.
  • Develop operational priorities, coordinate tasks, and monitor progress through frequent touchpoints.
  • Conduct performance management by drafting individual performance plans, tracking achievements, and conducting thorough interim and annual evaluations.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Ten years of experience leading a team of technicians managing a large-scale integration or development environment. This experience must include: 
    • Five years of hands-on IT management and budgetary responsibility of at least $1 million. 
    • Five years of experience supporting mission-critical enterprise systems including architectural and design work in a prior position, or positions that led teams running similar systems of comparable size and scope. 
    • Three years’ experience working with and managing MuleSoft Anypoint environments or similar experience with other integration platforms.

* A bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology may substitute on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of required experience.

Preference may be granted to applicants with the following:

A master’s degree in information technology.

Telework: This position is approved for telework. However, it requires the incumbent to be onsite in our Olympia office monthly to attend in-person meetings and trainings.
