We are seeking an ardent leader to supervise the sampling operations and logistics for the Lead in School Drinking Water Program, helping to prevent childhood lead exposure and reduce health disparities across the state.
About Us: This position resides in the Office of Environmental Public Health Sciences (OEPHS) within the Healthy Homes and Communities Section -Childhood Environmental Lead Exposure Prevention. As the Lead in School Drinking Water Sampling Supervisor, you will:
- Provide supervision and leadership to the Lead in School Drinking Water sampling team.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual state-wide sampling and testing plan.
- Lead the operational planning and logistics required to ensure accurate water sampling.
- Supervise a team of four providing direction, coaching, and oversight of the team
- Work with Unit supervisor and leadership across offices and divisions to solve problems and remove barriers to ensure processes and procedures are in place that allow for the sampling program to run efficiently.
- Drive efforts that focus on reducing environmental lead exposure in high-risk areas, improving health equity and outcomes for children across Washington.

Location and Flexibility
Enjoy the flexibility of our hybrid work environment, where you can balance working from home and collaborating in the office. You’ll be expected to be in the DOH facility in Tumwater, WA, one day per month, and conduct field site visits once per quarter throughout the state.
Required Qualifications (you must meet ONE of the provided options and any additional criteria listed.):
Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile.
Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in public health, health care administration, environmental sciences, business administration, public administration, environmental health, or closely allied field and two (2) or more years of experience working in a health services program, public health, medical service, social service, or another similar setting.
Option 2: Six (6) or more years of experience working in a health services program, public health, environmental sciences, medical service, social service, or another similar setting.
AND in addition to the above experience:
- Experience supervising or managing a team in a production environment.
- Experience facilitating meetings and training.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in public health, health sciences, environmental sciences, education, public administration, environmental health, or another related field.
- Experience using REDCap for survey distribution or data warehousing.
- Experience with environmental lead exposure sampling, testing and remediation.

- Commit to a full-time 40-hour workweek schedule (flexible work schedule requests must be approved supervisor). This position’s business hours are expected to be 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and includes early morning phone support.

- Adjust my work schedule occasionally to align with business needs, which may entail working evenings and weekends.
- Work is performed almost exclusively indoors in a DOH office and/or home-based office environment. The position requires occasional in-person attendance to perform duties on-site at the Tumwater location. When not working on-site as required, the incumbent may work from their home, a DOH office, or alternative location. The official duty station for this position is the DOH Tumwater office. Exposure to hazards is limited to those commonly found in government or home office environments.
- Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes requiring overnight stays or trips out of state. You must be able to legally drive a vehicle or arrange alternative transportation for state business.
- Engage in emergency response exercises and high-priority assignments as assigned during emergency events.
