We are seeking a Lead Software Development Engineer for our test section to support the quality assurance of Health Care Authority (HCA) Employee and Retiree Benefits (ERB) software systems and to assist in the review and testing delivery of program deliverables using proven project management principles while simultaneously leading and mentoring the rest of the QA team in established test automation approaches and techniques. This position will have the unique ability to “build their own world” with decision making in the tools they want to use and how they want to use them, building something from the ground up in the image they want. It will contribute to creating standards, not setting the bar, but creating the bar!
About the division :
The Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) division is the agency’s designated technology provider. ETS delivers innovative Information Technology (IT) solutions for enterprise-class business solutions (i.e., applications, data, and business processes) that support the mission of Health Care Authority divisions and business program groups.
About the position :
This IT Quality Assurance – Senior Specialist will work with highly motivated ERB project staff to focus on leading quality assurance through testing the Benefits 24 / 7 (B247) health election system planning system processes, requirements traceability, accessibility / usability, and defect tracking. It will automate regression testing for the new B247 system to include but not limited to user interfaces, API calls, scheduled processes, legacy system testing, and end-to-end testing. This position will ensure portions of the application are fully tested, defects tracked to resolution and defined business processes are functional.
This position may be eligible to telework full time. The default assigned work location of all Health Care Authority (HCA) positions – both on-site and telework eligible positions – is within the State of Washington. This position reports to Olympia, WA. Frequency of onsite work will vary based on business and operational needs. HCA may choose, but is not required, to support out-of-state telework on a case-by-case basis.
Some of what you will do :
- Provide senior level and lead expertise in analyzing requirements and developing automated test cases to perform Quality Assurance testing on business-critical Benefits 24 / 7 and ancillary systems.
- Execute test cases, review and document test results, log, track and reconcile defects until they get resolved, and advocate for resolution of defects impacting deliverables.
- Research and select innovative solutions / products to address complex challenges in testing tools and automation.
- Provide technical leadership within QA in designing, developing, and deploying ERB QA automation with focus on reducing risk of system changes.
- Provide training and support for team members in creating automated tests and configuring tools.
- Make decisions on complex issue resolution and risk mitigation escalated by junior staff.
- Determine scope of testing / test cases and execution of test scripts during test cycle.
- Assign pass or fail outcomes to test scripts based on defined requirements.
- Identify test scenarios which should be automated and the necessary data, and data sources, to ensure test efficacy.
- Evaluate results from automated test suites to identify and document system issues.
- Curate which automated tests are exercised at each stage of the development lifecycle to maximize QA value and efficiency.
