Description
The preserves and provides the people of Washington with easy access to millions of legal and historical records of our state and local governments. Washington's Digital Archives is the first of its kind in the nation and accessible worldwide via the web.
Citizens depend on the Archives to research genealogy, state and city history, property transfers, legislative intent, court records, and academic projects. Archives branches are on the Capital Campus in Olympia and college campuses around the state.
The Office of Secretary of State (OSOS) offers some of the most unique and diverse job opportunities in state government. Its critical responsibilities include : ensuring a fair and accurate elections process; connecting Washingtonians through the power of libraries; protecting our important government records; and registering corporations and charities. The Secretary of State also administers vital community programs that inspire giving, document our history, and assist crime survivors in avoiding further abuse. This independent office under the state Constitution operates from facilities in the Olympia area and statewide.

Marketing and Outreach - Communication Consultant 2Full time, Permanent
The position is primarily responsible for assisting with the coordination of outreach and marketing and coordinating the volunteer program for the Archives. This position collaborates with teams within the Archives and various subject matter experts to create clear and compelling written and visual content for archives and its customers. This position also supports engagement with external groups to coordinate events that highlight archival collections. This position reports to Communications Consultant 3 of the Washington State Archives.
Duties
Outreach, Marketing and Content creationTasks
include :
Assists in developing, coordinating, and publicizing archival exhibits, traveling programs and events hosted by Archives.Collects statistics and other data and prepares reports as required.Assists with producing marketing materials, such as publications, brochures, and other illustrative materials, that describe the mission and holdings of the Archives and Legacy Washington program.Collaborates with regional archives branches to coordinate events and determine ways to highlight their collections.Gathers background information by research and writes a variety of material such as monthly newsletters, brochures, podcasts, and presentations.Provides tours of the facility to introduce visitors to the work of archivists and the archives.Represents archives at community events and conferences sharing archives resources.Collaborates with OSPI on how OSOS can be a resource to educators.Assists in the creation of social media content for archives platforms.Supports maintenance of archives webpages and content, and reviews content for clarity and brand consistency.Reviews and proofreads archives-related website content for accuracy and comprehension; provides feedback to create user-friendly website content.Volunteer CoordinationTasks include :
Monitors and tracks production of volunteers ensuring the work meets Division standards.Provides technical assistance to volunteers and office staff recommending resolutions to routine and complex problems and issues that arise.Recruits, trains and educates additional volunteers on the role and holdings of the Archives.MiscellaneousTasks include :

Two years of writing / editing experience.Ability to efficiently use a personal computer and applicable software to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.Preferred / Desired Qualifications : Proven experience with much of the following :
Writing talking points, one-pagers, news releases, op-eds, and other written materials, adhering to AP Stylebook guidelines.Creating graphics for print and online use, utilizing tools like Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, or similar software.Filming and editing video, using tools like Adobe Premier Pro and other software.Using content management systems, such as Drupal or WordPress, to maintain webpages.Social media best practices and industry trends, including on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.Creating organizational and issue-based messaging campaigns.Working with Google Analytics and other reports to assess website performance.

Working ConditionsIn this position, the incumbent works in an office, sometimes sitting for long periods of time in front of computer monitors. Must be able to move or maneuver up to 30 pounds, with or without a reasonable accomodation. The standard work hours are Monday-Friday from 8 : 00 AM to 5 : 00 PM with the ability to work irregular hours and weekends on short notice as needed for business activities. Occasional local and state travel is required. Out-of-state travel for professional development opportunities is permitted with manager approval. Communicates information both verbally and in writing with the general public, vendors, local government. Must have excellent time-management skills and the ability to make good decisions under pressure. Full-time employees who work full monthly schedules qualify for holiday compensation if they are employed before the holiday and are in pay status for at least 80 nonovertime hours during the month of the holiday; or for the entire work shift preceding the holiday.
Part-time employees who are in pay status during the month of the holiday qualify for the holiday on a pro-rata basis. Compensation for holidays (including personal holiday) will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status in the month to that required for full-time employment, excluding all holiday hours. Pay status includes hours worked and time on paid leave.
Sick LeaveFull-time employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month. Overtime eligible employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month, earn a monthly proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Overtime exempt employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month do not earn a monthly accrual of sick leave.
Sick leave accruals for part-time employees will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.
Vacation (Annual Leave)Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Full-time employees who are in pay status for less than 80 nonovertime hours in a month do not earn a monthly accrual of vacation leave.
Part-time employees accrue vacation leave hours in accordance with (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA) on a pro rata basis. Vacation leave accrual will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment.
Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.
As provided in , an employer may authorize a lump-sum accrual of vacation leave or accelerate the vacation leave accrual rate to support the recruitment and / or retention of a candidate or employee for a Washington Management Service position. Vacation leave accrual rates may only be accelerated using the rates established WAC 357-31-165.
Note :
Most agencies follow the civil service rules covering leave and holidays for
exempt
employees even though there is no requirement for them to do so. However, agencies are required to adhere to the applicable RCWs pertaining holidays and leave.
Military LeaveWashington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year.
Bereavement LeaveMost employees whose family member or household member dies, are entitled to three (3) days of paid bereavement leave. In addition, the employer may approve other available leave types for the purpose of bereavement leave.
