Job Title: Placement Exception Facility - Social Service Supervisor 5 (SSS5) - Graveyard Shift. 
Location: Burien, WA - Region 4. Graveyard Schedule. There will be some variation in work hours due to the need to provide 24/7 care for youth in the facility, travel with clients as cases require, and attend training courses and meetings in other locations.

Salary: $6,227 - $8,377. The salary listed will also include an additional 5% premium granted to all King County employees and a shift differential.

The Opportunity: 
The Placement Exception Facility Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day functioning of the facility, including on-call duties, supervision of direct care staff, and responding to emergent situations as needed. This first-line supervisor position will employ planning, accountability, and tracking processes to ensure Social Service Specialists meet casework management and safety and well-being directives. In this role, you will supervise Social Service Specialists and Social Service Support Specialists who provide professional-level services to youth. This program is a short-term living option for foster youth (aged 13 to 18) who require supervision and do not currently have a placement.  These facilities can accommodate up to seven youths, with a staff-to-youth ratio of one SSS or support specialist for every three youths.

Some of what you will get to do: 
  • Manages the day-to-day functioning of the Youth Facility. 
  • Assigns, prioritizes, audits, reviews work assignments, delegates staff duties, and schedules unit staff. 
  • Recommends hires, trains new and existing staff, and arranges formal agency training for job-specific tasks and career development. 
  • Sets expectations for staff performance, prepares written evaluations, and initiates corrective or disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Prepares written and oral reports, documentation, and agency communications regarding program areas supervised.
  • Conducts case staffings and unit meetings, and participates in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Coordinates with the youth's assigned Social Service Specialist in managing the case plan and ensures proper coordination and implementation of services. 
  • Supports youth with complex mental health, developmental, and behavioral needs.
  • Ensures youth receive access to education, nutrition, and enrichment activities.
  • Documents daily events regarding youth and programming.
  • Promotes positive behavior change in youth for improved placement outcomes.
  • Maintains appropriate supervision of youth based on individual supervision plans and protocols. 
  • Oversees medication administration for youth as prescribed.
  • Adheres to Missing from Care Policy for runaway youth.

Required Qualifications:    
Eight years of paid social service experience. Paid Social Service experience must include at least one year of assessing risk and safety to children in a professional work setting, which may include experience in a juvenile rehabilitation institution/facility AND 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline completed at a college recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). 
OR
A Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or Master’s degree which includes 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline AND (3) three years of paid social service experience*.
OR
A Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences OR a Bachelor’s degree which includes 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline AND (4) four years of paid social service experience*.
OR
One year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 4.
OR
Two years of experience as a Social Service Specialist 3.

NOTE: A two-year Master's degree in one of the above fields that included a practicum may be substituted for one year of paid social service experience.

*Paid Social Service experience must include assessing risk and safety to children in professional work which may include experience in a juvenile rehabilitation institution/facility.
 
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
  • Incumbent must successfully pass a background check prior to initial appointment.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete the formal training course sponsored by their division within one year of their appointment.
  • Incumbent must attend all mandatory DCYF training including Social Service Specialists Academy Training Institute and CHET-specific training requirements within twelve months of initial appointment.
  • Degrees must be obtained from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or a foreign equivalent verified by a NACES-approved organization at naces.org.  For Degrees obtained outside the U.S.: Foreign Equivalency certification must be attached to the application.  
  • Incumbent must hold a valid driver’s license when operating a state or privately owned vehicle on official state business.  

In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:
  • One year of paid social service experience which includes providing family-centered practice services. 
  • Working understanding of state and federal laws and agency policies and regulations.  
  • Child Welfare, Indian Child Welfare, risk assessment, safety planning, and licensing regulations. 
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Fam link. 
  • Demonstrated experience providing direct care to youth in a community environment.
  • Demonstrated experience monitoring and managing youth in a non-secure residential setting in the community. 
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining community relationships that support successful transition of youth. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development, complex trauma, ASD, IDD, and youth in Dependency Actions. 
  • Demonstrated competency in relating to clients from diverse backgrounds and cultural groups. 
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends, and influences related to youth living in residential facilities. 
  • Ability to use de-escalation techniques approved for intervention by DCYF with verbally and/or physically aggressive youth.
